Skiku
Skiku ski week promotes healthy physical fitness, as well as motivates kids to stay in school. Skiku works with 98% Alaska Native youth facing numerous challenges to their health, wellness, and education. Skiku programs introduce cross-country skiing and biathlon in villages with an ideal climate for skiing, of which 11 of those villages are on the Iditarod trail. It costs on average $50/student to participate in a full Skiku Ski Week!)
Tanana Chiefs Conference
We are organized as Dena’ Nena’ Henash or “Our Land Speaks”; an Alaska Native non-profit corporation, charged with advancing Tribal self-determination and enhancing regional Native unity. We work toward meeting the health and social service needs of Tribal members and beneficiaries throughout our region. Our programs and services range from direct healthcare services to tribal development services, the management of natural resources, public safety, community planning and transportation.
They also are providing COVID-19 testing and vaccination in Alaskan rural communities.
Tundra Women’s Coalition
Tundra Women’s Coalition provides safe, empowering services for families experiencing domestic or sexual violence. We seek to promote violence-free communities through culturally appropriate outreach programs, supportive services and violence prevention programs.
Environment
Alaska Trails
As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit, incorporated in the state of Alaska, we provide funding ideas and sources as well as technical assistance for on-the-ground trail related projects and programs such as development, maintenance, easement acquisition, safety, education, and more. Our supporters and partners represent a cross-section of trail user groups, businesses, government agencies, community organizations, and individuals. Alaska Trails is the only statewide group providing care for all Alaskan trails.
Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance
The Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance promotes public awareness and protection of the Iditarod National Historic Trail and its gold-rush and Alaska Native heritage. How do we do this? By encouraging education programs and historical research to tell the story of the Trail. By assisting in the protection, improvement, maintenance and marking of the trail. And, by developing partnerships that foster stewardship commitments and support from land owners, local communities, organizations and others.
Norton Bay Inter-Tribal Watershed Council
NBITWC is focused on protection and sustainable management of water and subsistence resources, climate change adaptation planning, Alaska Native tribal sovereignty and environmental human rights in the Norton Bay Watershed located on the Seward Peninsula, Alaska. To this end, NBITWC conducts legal and scientific research, analysis, lobbying, policy and advocacy in its efforts to protect and restore tribal interest in water quantity, water quality and water rights for the health of the watershed ecosystem, preservation of cultural identity, protection of subsistence resources and the benefit of tribal members.

Alaska Mountain Rescue Group
Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) is a nonprofit volunteer search and rescue organization based in Anchorage, Alaska, dedicated to providing search and rescue services in Alaska. Founded in 1960, our organization consists of dedicated, professional volunteers with extensive back country experience who train regularly to bring people who are lost, injured, stranded, or deceased back to their families.
Alaska Search and Rescue Association
Alaska Search and Rescue Association (ASARA) is an association of search and rescue organizations and individuals in Alaska. ASARA is a non-profit whose mission is to support search and rescue efforts across the state of Alaska. ASARA accomplishes this through:
1) providing liaison support between Alaska’s Department of Public Safety and the volunteer search and rescue community
2) seeking state and national sources of continued funding for search and rescue training opportunities for volunteer personnel
3) allocating grant funds for professional level training to search and rescue organizations and personnel throughout Alaska)
Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs
Alaska Search & Rescue Dogs (ASARD) is a nonprofit, volunteer emergency service unit based in Anchorage, Alaska. Its primary purpose is to assist in search and rescue (SAR) operations using teams of highly trained search dogs and searcher-handlers.
ASARD teams can work with startling speed in some situations. They are prepared to be self-sufficient for days in the field on extended operations.
MAT+SAR Search and Rescue
MAT+SAR Search & Rescue is a non profit, 501c3 corporation that was started in 2003. MAT+SAR serves the entire Matanuska Susitna Valley, in South Central Alaska and other locations throughout the State as directed by the Alaska State Troopers.
Wilderness Search and Rescue
A ground-search team based out of Fairbanks, Alaska composed of un-paid volunteers that have training, experience, and equipment necessary for search & rescue operations in Interior Alaska. WSAR is a registered non-profit service organization made of members from the Fairbanks community. WSAR serves as an un-paid auxiliary to the Alaska State Troopers to augment their departmental search and rescue efforts.

Choosing Our Roots
Choosing Our Roots provides participants with more than just shelter: COR assists queer youth and young adults, ages 13 to 24, by building supportive, long-term relationships with volunteer Host Home families and community members.
In addition to providing safe homes and bringing together new families, COR coordinates with community partners to provide wrap-around services and build a network of support for its participants.

Identity’s mission is to advance Alaska’s LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community through advocacy, education and connectivity.
Pride Foundation – Alaska
Pride Foundation works to address root causes of discrimination impacting the LGBTQ+ community. In part by supporting community leaders and organizations that work to eliminate long-standing barriers to equal access, opportunities, and resources for LGBTQ+ people. And by expanding and deepening the level of engagement among all LGBTQ+ people and allies, including people who are economically, racially, socially, geographically, or politically disenfranchised.
Animal-Related
Alaska Rural Veterinary Outreach
ARVO hosts clinics in rural villages with no other access to veterinary care. They provide vaccinations, de-worming, spay/neuter, and other necessary care for pets. They have provided clinics in trail villages Galena and Nome. It costs $10 to vaccinate and deworm one dog.
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research, and quality animal care. AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides them with spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Most of the animals that arrive at the AWCC become permanent residents and will always have a home here. The Center maintains over 200 acres of spacious habitats for animals to feel at home and display their natural “wild” behavior. Visitors may see brown bears cooling off in the water, a bull moose strutting, wood bison roaming on pastures and more.
The August Foundation for Alaska’s Racing Dogs
The August Foundation provides a link between professional mushers and dog lovers across the country to place retired canine athletes in loving homes after their racing days are done. They provide foster homes and vet care for dogs awaiting a family placement. This foundation works mainly in Alaska with individual mushers, shelters and other rescue organizations but does re-home dogs outside of Alaska.

Alaska Native Heritage Center
Alaska Native Heritage Center preserves and strengthens the traditions, languages, and art of Alaska’s Native People through statewide collaboration, celebration, and education.
KNOM-AM, KNOM-FM
These radio stations provide faith, inspiration, news, & education thru radio to listeners in Western AK: from the Yukon Delta to the Bering Strait & throughout the villages & rural stretches of the AK Bush. The radio station is an important communication link for a highly remote and isolated part of the United States. KNOM airs Alaska Native music and events as well as mushing races. The traditional music and storytelling of Alaska Native people of Western Alaska is an integral part of KNOM’s programming.
KSKO-FM
Kuskokwim Public Broadcasting Corporation’s mission is to meet the diverse specialized, informational and cultural needs of the listening area. This mission drives our staff and board as we reach to provide community listening needs. We stick to our schedule, and you can count on our announcers to bring you current messages, and weather, as well as a variety of music. We have a variety of NPR programming / NPR special news announcements, as well as local news and information. KSKO is based in McGrath, with repeaters all along the Iditarod Trail: Grayling, Shageluk, Holy Cross, Anvik, and Nikolai.
